Centar za kulturu vas i ove godine invites you to ,,Vela Spila Cave Days,, – a manifestation intended to popularize science, which will take place between August 16 and 19, 2026.
Although the focus is on Veloj Spili – the most famous locality not only on Vele Luka, but also on the island, and in the wider area – the event covers a whole range of topics including archaeology, history, ethnology and other scientific fields.

This year, Dani Vele played at the symbol of the history of the everyday, thematically focused on the edge, and our guests are two scientists from the Institute of Archeology near Zagreb: dr. sc. Ivana Ožanić Roguljić and dr. sc. Matej Hulin. They have, each in their area of interest, focused their research on the topic of nutrition, food and cooking. Dr. sc. Ivana Ožanić Roguljić is interested in ancient (Greek and Roman) cooking, and in collaboration with a number of local, muzejskih institutions in Hrvatska, she has created antique recipes, adapting specific antique foods to the 21st century.
She will, in cooperation with Srednjom skolom Vela Luka, on Sunday, 16/08/2026, hold a workshop on the preparation of Roman recipes, which can be tried on Monday, 17/08/2026 at 9 p.m., after a lecture on Roman cooking and cooking.
We will return to Vela spil through izlaganje dr. sc. Mateja Hulina, who studies the food habits of the Neolithic population in Croatia. At the lecture, which will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 9 p.m., Dr. Hulina will tell you more about the eating habits of the Neolithic inhabitants of Vele spile. We believe that everyone will be interested in information not only about what happened at Veloj Spili, but also about the methodology.
Both lectures will be held at the Atriju Center for Culture.
